MARL NEEDS SHELTER VOLUNTEERS!
MARL relies heavily on volunteers to care for and socialize the animals. Volunteers help us with daily shelter activities as well as fundraising events.
Volunteers must be able to bend, squat, use both hands simultaneously and remove cats from cages. Since the shelter is filled with animals, the program does not work for those with allergies.
For details on how to get involved vist the "Volunteer Sign-Up" section.
SPECIAL ANIMALS NEED FOSTER HOMES
Foster care allows us to care for animals that are in need of special care due to injury or illness. If you have volunteered at our shelter and are interested in caring for a pet in your home, please call us.
For more information on how to foster, call the shelter at (248) 335-9290 during regular business hours.
VOLUNTEER DUTIES
In the morning we need you the most! From 8-10:30 a.m. we scrub the shelter from top to bottom, every cage and kennel. Please read below for a description of some of the duties.
You can volunteer in the morning to clean or in the afternoon to play. Or, you can do both! We need all the volunteers we can get!
THE CATS
The duties in the morning are simple: cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning. The cats need their papers changed, laundry washed, cages scrubbed, and of course, they need fresh food, water and litter.
After the cleaning is done, the animals may have full bellies, but they still need your attention! The cats love to play. They love to lap sit. They also need to be brushed. In other words, they need to be socialized!
THE DOGS
The duties of a dog person are simple -- even more so than the cats. They need fresh paper, food, toys, etc. But most of all they need to be walked! Socializing of the dogs takes place after we open at 10:30 a.m. If you would like to volunteer to play with the puppies -- or help clean up after them -- please give us a call!
