About Us | Print |

The Michigan Animal Rescue League is one of southeast Michigan's most established animal shelters, serving the community since 1953.

Our Philosophy

The Michigan Animal Rescue League believes that every animal deserves the highest quality of life.   Each and every animal that comes through our door is given unconditional love and regard in the form of physical care, socialization and the day to day joys that an animal would receive in a home.

We do not euthanize our animals except when injury, disease or temperament make other options impossible.

How We Do It

  • MARL rescues animals out of desperate situations.
  • We give them consistent, dedicated care and attention in an effort to help them retain or regain their ability to connect with people and enjoy life.
  • To us, dedicated care and attention means medical care, socialization and training and most of all love and acceptance.
  • As a result, our animals receive personalized placement, whether that be with an adoptive family, in long term foster care or living as part of the MARL family for an extended period of time.

Why It Works

  • The sanctuary environment at MARL is similar to that of a loving home.
  • Animals receive one-on-one attention from our staff and volunteers.
  • Not only is it enjoyable for our animals to receive so much attention but it allows us to truly get to know each animal.
  • Consequentially, the animals are given time to adjust to the many changes and sometimes difficult pasts that have endured.
  • They can regain their emotional well being through the kindness and constant loving care and attention that they receive at MARL.   They appreciate the affection from familiar faces and the relief of necessary medical care and good nutrition.
  • In their own time, our animals are physically and socially ready to be adopted into their family.

At MARL, we believe the quality of "the wait" for a forever home can make all the difference.  Some animals wait three days, some three months, some three years or more.  At MARL we offer our animals the solace of time.
