Adoption Process
By far the most important work we do at MARL is placing our dogs and cats into loving homes. Our staff and volunteers are never more satisfied than when a dog or cat leaves the shelter on its way to a warm and loving home. Our adoption process allows an adopter the opportunity to make an informed decision and takes into account the very best interest of the dogs and cats at MARL.
Please take a few moments to review the details of our adoption process.
|
Take your time in meeting and visiting with the animal or animals you are interested in.
Consult with a MARL adoption counselor. Our in-depth knowledge of each animal allows us to answer your questions and help you find the perfect match for your home.
Once you decide on a particular animal, you will fill out an adoption application and discuss further the specific needs of the animal with an adoption counselor.
You can then take a day or two to prepare your home and make proper introductions if you have children or other animals in your home. We ask that you bring your children and other animals to the shelter for an outdoor introduction.
When you receive a call from MARL that a perfect match has been made between you, your home and the animal, you can make arrangements to pick up your dog or cat from the shelter.
When you arrive at the shelter you will sign the adoption agreement and take care of adoption fees.
You are now ready to take your new best friend home and enjoy the unconditional love they will bring to your life.
|
Please do not be discouraged that it may take a couple of days for the adoption to be complete. We assure you this is only to ensure the best interest of our animals. It can be incredibly detrimental for an animal to be adopted and then returned to the shelter so we do our best to make sure that it is a perfect match right from the beginning. We also want to be confident that you, as an adopter, are bringing home a cat or dog that is the right fit for your home and lifestyle.
Please note that we do not do out-of-state adoptions.
